The GMC Utilities Group has undertaken significant telecommunications projects in both Northern and Southern Ireland over the last three decades. In the North of Ireland the group successfully installed a broadband network for UPC in the Greater Belfast Area in addition to undertaking the Sirius Route which comprised of a regional fibre network to form a ring around the North together with a link between Belfast and Dublin.

Having gained considerable experience from successfully completing the major projects in the North, we were awarded a contract to install a network for UPC in Dublin.

When the Government funded broadband projects came on stream we were awarded a multi million euro project for Meath County Council in addition to projects for Carrick-On-Shannon, Limerick and Liberties Coombe for Dublin City Council. These projects were turnkey and included ducting, chamber construction, cabling and jointing of fibre optic cables and the installation of co–location facilities in each of the towns.

We have undertaken maintenance and upgrading works for Worldcom, Aurora, MKI, Energis, ESAT, Cable & Wireless, Eircom, ESB Communications and ESB Networks. Works for these clients have varied in both size and complexity. A significant number of these projects were within city centre locations. In many instances the maintenance and upgrade works were tied into the respective live networks. These operations added to the complexity but were completed by our own resources. Completing these projects in areas where high volumes of vehicular and pedestrian traffic were present was managed with the assistance of our own in-house traffic management design and drawing capability.
